Is this the official website of the railway?

No. Corridor Rail Notes is an independent, personal travel journal. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to VIA Rail Canada or any other operator. I write about rides I have taken. That is the whole licence.

Do you sell train tickets or reservations?

No. This site sells nothing and processes no payments. It is a journal of personal trips and impressions. For tickets, always use the railway’s own official website. If a page here ever sounded like a shop, it was a failure of tone.

Is the train better than driving between Toronto and Montreal?

From experience: no 401 stress, no fuel stops, you arrive having used the hours instead of gripping a wheel. You also arrive on the train’s schedule, not yours. If a meeting starts at a sharp time and the weather is a mess, I still pick the train and leave slack. If you love controlling every minute, you may miss the car.

Is there Wi-Fi and power on board?

Yes to both, in general terms. Outlets have been reliable on the corridor trains I ride. Wi-Fi is fine for email and browsing, less so for streaming a film you care about. I bring a downloaded backup and pretend that is wisdom rather than habit.

Can I work on the train?

Absolutely — tray table, outlet, and hours of uninterrupted time if you want them. Many riders treat it as a mobile office. I have finished work I would have stalled on in an open-plan room. I have also given up and watched Quebec slide past. Both are allowed.

What’s the best time of year for the ride?

Early October for the maples. Deep winter for the snowfields. Honestly, there is no bad season. July can be green to the point of monotony. March can be brown. I have liked both more than I expected. More of that feeling is in the day-in-the-life guide.

Should I book ahead?

Popular departure times and holiday weekends fill up. Checking availability early with the operator is wise. I will not list openings or send you anywhere — that information goes stale, and this journal is not a counter. I can only tell you how the hours have felt in my own seats.
